


OUR MISSION
To honor and assist Veterans and military active, and their families; and educate and assist the Community.
POST OBJECTIVES:
• Provide information and assistance to all Veterans, Veteran widows, and their families
• Honor whenever possible, those military who served our Nation
• Maintain the Veterans Memorial on the Courthouse Square
• Educate the community on Americanism, Patriotism, and Veteran issues
• Host patriotic events such as Four Chaplains, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Patriot Day (9-11), National POW/MIA Recognition Day, Veterans Day, and Pike County Hall of Heroes programs
• Provide a Veteran’s facility to meet to conduct Legion business, to socialize and relax with fellow Veterans, and to conduct community events
• Support community events through military and Veterans representation, flag protocol, Veteran funerals, and a helping hand to those in need
• Host annual Pike County Veteran and First Responders of the Year Awards

GENERAL
EVENTS + MEETINGS
Post 197 General Membership (GM) Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
American Legion Auxiliary (ALA). General Memberhsip Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month at 7p.m.
Sons of American Legion (SAL) GM Meetings are held every first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.
Objectives of the meetings are Legion family fellowship, dissemination of information, and event coordination.
Post hosts Prayer on the Square every first Tuesday of the month at the Veterans Memorial.
The Post 197 Executive Committee (EC) conducts a minimum of a monthly Meeting on the third Thursday of the Month at 6 pm or as needed for key event planning.
